AERA 2012 is Just Around the Corner!

The proposals have been submitted and reviewed, and the selections have been made for the 2012 AERA conference in Vancouver, Canada. Authors have been notified and their papers are now being further developed and finalized for the conference.   This is a very busy time of the year as many SSTEP members are either in the final weeks of their fall semester or are comleting their spring semester and are busy developing their summer plans and projects.  Yet at this busy time, I’d like to encourage you to be thinking about and planning for AERA in April. We are looking forward to another outstanding conference, and part of what makes the conference so successful is the dynamic participation of our SSTEP members!

Part of making participation possible is registering for the conference and finding housing for your stay. Registration for AERA will open around mid-December.  I encourage you to keep a watch on the AERA website over the next few weeks in order to get your registration in and your room reserved.  I’ve included the following information from the AERA website regarding registration for the 2012 AERA conference.

Registration and housing will open mid-December and a link for online registration will be available then from the AERA web page (www.aera.net).

It is the policy of AERA that all persons in attendance at the 2012 AERA Annual Meeting and Exhibition, including participants who plan to attend one or more sessions, are required to register. Registration is not transferable.

Registration allows the individual to attend all invited symposia and sessions, grants admission to the AERA Exhibit Hall, and provides the opportunity to purchase tickets to attend any of the AERA Professional Development extended courses and mini-courses, as well as tour tickets and events.

Please note for registration: In order to qualify for the AERA member rate, your membership must be current through 2012. This means that if your membership expires in December 2011, you must renew your membership for 2012 at the time of registration in order to qualify for the member rate.

Registration and housing must be done simultaneously. Once you complete your registration, your registration summary will include a link to make an online hotel reservation. In addition, your AERA membership must be current through 2012 in order to receive the discounted AERA rate. The link can be accessed from the online registration summary screen or the email registration confirmation. In the online registration Summary screen, select the button “Hotel Reservations” that appears in the upper left side of the screen. In the email confirmation, select the link “Hotel Reservations” in the upper right side of the email.

SIG Networking in Vancouver

Special thanks to our amazing program chairs, Renee Clift and Jim Muchmore. Through their efforts our S-STEP SIG conference experience has expanded to include a partnership with fellow research SIGs that share an interest in teaching and teacher education. This has culminated in a shared poster session.  This should provide a great opportunity for sharing research and for networking with other research groups.

More information will follow over the next few weeks and months regarding the S-STEP conference information, such as the presentation schedule, the business meeting, and important social events at the conference.  I look forward to seeing all of you in Vancouver this April!
